Still in Bondage to that Reoccurring Sin?

Dear Woman of God,

What is your yoke of bondage? What sin is still entangling you with darkness? Do you want to be free from it, but you can’t seem to let it go completely? Have the methods you’ve tried worked? Were you free from it, and for how long?

In Galatians 5:1 Paul writes to the people of Galatia saying:

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Christ freed us from the bondage of sin, but we still find ourselves living in it. We were free from it but somehow became entangled with it again and have tried to be rid of it but still can’t

Why?

Because we are still walking in the flesh. We are still letting our flesh control our emotions and actions.

But how can we not do this when it is in our nature to respond to what our mind and body tells us.

Galatians 5:16 says; 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

What are the lusts of the flesh? (Gal 5:19-21)

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, etc.

So how can we overcome the lusts of the flesh?

By walking in the Spirit and letting the Spirit lead and guide us. Or in other words, abiding in Christ.

Galatians 5:24-25:

24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

We must listen to God’s Spirit, take heed of His warnings, and obey His directions. One of the important roles of the spirit is to convict us of our sins. Whenever you feel that something you are about to do isn’t right or after you’ve done it you feel bad about it, that’s the Spirit convicting you. Following the Spirit requires complete surrender of your mind and body to be led and not to lead. When we walk on our own, we find ourselves in trouble.

God’s Spirit also empowers us to fight our fleshly desires for it is impossible to obey Him with our own strength, and the devil will work hard to hinder us from obeying the truth (God’s word). Jesus said in Mathew 17:21; However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

Amazing how God’s word gives us instructions and answers. Meditating on God’s word, fellowshipping with Him through prayer and supplication keeps the devil away.

When we walk in the Spirit, He will supply us with everything we need to live a Christ-like life that pleases the Lord and bares amazing fruits.
